The Siberian Husky
Let me start by saying the Siberian Husky is NOT for everyone. As odd as that sounds coming from a breeder and someone who loves these superb animals, it is very true and most responsible breeders/owners would agree with it whole heartedly. Siberians, despite their look, do not make the best watchdogs, they tend to bark little, howl often and ignore anything strange. They shed CONSTANTLY, neat-nicks beware, if this is to be an inside dog, be ready for plenty of grooming to keep the hair to a minimum. They maintain a high energy level most of the time, and for most of their lives are very playful. A bored husky can be a dangerous thing inside a house, holes chewed through walls and doors, linoleum torn off the floor, not to mention shoes, clothes, and the occasional piece of furniture all can be chew toys. These are high maintenance, high energy working dogs. In the wrong household, it can be a disaster.
In the right home though, they are a blessing. Their unending sense of play combined with a gentle temperament make them great playmates. They are wonderful companions and (as long as they have already had time to run) love to curl up for a good nap. Just watching two of them play together can be as much fun for the observer as it seems to be for the dogs! All the "intangibles" we look for in dogs, Siberian Huskies have and then some. They are loyal, gentle, friendly and joyful. If they weren't so mischievous and fun loving they'd almost be doggy boy scouts.
